Golf Dat Lab Scottish youths championship

Carnoustie's Cappi goes three strokes

clear with two rounds to go at Renfrew

Angus Cappi, whose home course – Carnoustie – is one of the toughest around, must find it slightly easier to play Renfrew, venue for this weekend’s Golf Data Lab Scottish youths championship.
Cappi shows three shots ahead of the big field with Sunday’s final two rounds to come with a couple of steady rounds of 72 and 71 for one-under-par 143.
Cappi departed from par only three times in today’s (Sat) second round – a bogey at the eighth, a birdie at the ninth and a birdie at the 17th in halves of 36 and 35.
First-round leader Scott Crighton from Dalgety Bay, a member of Aberdour GolfClub, has slipped back into a five-way tie for second place on 146.
Crighton, who has completed three years as a golf scholarship student and highly-rated academic at the University of Western New Mexico, followed up his Friday 70 with a 76 in which four shots where shed to par over the last three holes.
After going out in 35, Crichton had double bogey 6s at the 16th and 18th.
Peter Scanlan (Hamilton), also had double bogey 6s, but at the first and eighth in his second-round 75 for 146.
The 43 qualifiers for the final day had to shoot eight-over-par 152 or better to beat the cut.
Former title-holders Fran Pintor Smith from Spain (153) and defending champion David Booth (Stirling University & Rotherham) (162) failed to make it.
