SENIOR MEN'S AREA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
AT CARDROSS RAINED OFF

The Scottish senior men's inter-area team stroke-play championship, due to be played at Cardross Golf Club on Thursday, has been called off because the course is closed because of flooding.
"Following a meeting with the club captain, greens convener and head greenkeeper it was decided that there is less than 10% chance of the course re-opening by Thursday," said Keith Howie, the senior society's secretary.
"The staff are unable to do any work and there is a great deal of surface water which will not clear in time, no matter how dry Wednesday is. We contacted Helensburgh Golf Club but they are in the same position.
"Rather than have anyone start travelling we have taken the decision to cancel at this stage. There is the prospect of a re-schedule in October but that will be dictated by the logistics of getting sufficient of the teams together again."
