England send three Under-21s to bid
for Eisenhower Trophy Down Under

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY ENGLISH GOLF UNION
England will send a young yet highly talented trio to the world men's amateur team championship for the Eisenhower Trophy, being played over the Royal Adelaide and the Grange (West Course) Golf Clubs in Adelaide, South Australia, from October 16 to 19.
Luke Goddard, Sam Hutsby and Dale Whitnell, all aged under 21, were members of the England team for the home internationals, played earlier this month at Muirfield, and will aim to give England its first victory in the Eisenhower Trophy since the home countries abandoned the GB&I team in 2002 in favour of separate teams.
Goddard is enjoying a highly successful year, culminating in his selection for the home internationals. The 20-year-old from Hendon won the South of England stroke-play championship, finished runner-up in the Selborne Salver and the Lagonda Trophy, third in the European amateur and reached the quarter-finals of the English amateur.
A boy international in 2006, Goddard is a former winner of the Bernard Darwin and McEvoy Trophies, the South East junior championship, the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters and the Chiberta Grand Prix in Biarritz.
Hutsby, 19, from Liphook, has been capped at Under-16 and boys' levels since 2004 and made his full England debut in last year's home internationals in Ireland. In 2007, he won the Spanish amateur championship and the St Mellion International, while his successes this year include victory in the Bernard Darwin Salver and runner-up in the Welsh Open stroke-play championship.
Hutsby visited Australia earlier this year when representing the English Golf Union in the Ashes, the Australian stroke-play and the Australian amateur championship and recently helped GB&I win the St Andrews Trophy against the Continent of Europe.
Whitnell was also in the squad that visited Australia this year and reached the semi-finals of the Australian amateur. Since then the Essex 20-year-old, who plays at Five Lakes, has won the Lagonda and Tillman Trophies, retained the North of England youths championship and was runner-up in the Lytham Trophy.
A former boy cap, Whitnell also made his full England debut in last year’s home internationals and this year played against France and in the European men’s team championship. He was also a member of the victorious St Andrews Trophy team.
Great Britain and Ireland last won the Eisenhower Trophy in Chile in 1998 but following the decision by the four home unions to send separate teams, England have finished seventh in Kuala Lumpur in 2002, eighth in Puerto Rico in 2004 and tied sixth two years ago in South Africa.
The best two scores each day count.
The current holders are the Netherlands.
