Scott Jamieson up with leaders
in Swiss Challenge event

FROM PAUL SYMES, Challenge Tour Press Officer
Glasgow globe-trotter Scott Jamieson put the disappointment of four consecutive missed cuts behind him to grab a share of second place in the early stages on day one of the Credit Suisse Challenge today.
The Scot, who played four years on the American college circuit as a student at Augusta State University and then campaigned successfully on the NGA Hooters Tour in the States, fired six birdies in a bogey-free round of 67 at Wylihof Golf Club in Luterbach, Switzerland, to finish the day two shots off the pace.
Jamieson, the 2001 Scottish boys' open stroke-play champion, said: “I didn’t really do anything special, just holed a few longer putts – one from about 25 feet – which really kick-started my round. I played the par-5s quite nicely, and it helps that the greens are quite soft, so you’re able to be aggressive most of the time.
“It’s pleasing to shoot low again, because I’m coming here on the back of four missed cuts. But I actually played reasonably well last week, without holing many putts. But the putter was working for me today, and long may it continue.
"Obviously the eyes of the golfing world will on Loch Lomond back home this week, but it’d be nice to divert them to Switzerland for a few while.”
Northern Ireland’s Gareth Maybin, another former US college circuit player, is on the same mark as Jamieson.
Ulsterman Maybin said: “My girlfriend told me to get a new haircut recently, and my game also seems to have got better as a result! It also helps that I’ve been getting some coaching from Colin Little, a guy from Ballyclaire Golf Club. He’s a positive bloke, and he’s been working on getting my confidence up. Results recently have been good – and they need to be to keep up with the mortgage repayments!”
