David Orr motors
clear of field to
claim Lanark prize
David Orr, East Renfrewshire Golf Club’s tour professional-cum-taxi driver, put is foot down to zoom away from the field with a second-round, seven-under-par 63 to win the Callaway/Audi 36-hole Tartan Tour event at Lanark Golf Club today by four shots.
Orr, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, had started the day two shots behind leader Lindsay Mann (Carnoustie) and one adrift of second-placed Jonathan Lomas (unattached)
Mann self-destructed with a triple bogey 7 at the 11th and other shots shed willy nilly at the ninth, 15th, 16th and 18th for a 74 – a slump of 10 shots - and a joint 12th place finish which had a pay-out of only £193 instead of the four-figure cheque he was chasing.
Englishman Lomas dropped out of the title hunt with three shots dropped over the first four holes, including a double-bogey 6 at the fourth.
And so when Orr started motoring with an eagle 2 at the 312yd par-4 fifth, he simply left his rivals for dead.
Orr went on to birdie the eighth, ninth, 11, 13th and 15th in a bogey-free round of some quality, by two strokes the best by anyone over the two days. He finished on 11-under-par 129 to win the £1,147 top prize from Euan Little (Co Tipperary) and Robert Arnott (Bishopbriggs Golf Range) on 133. Both earned £975.
