Tommy Fleetwood to captain
England in Boys' Home
Internationals at Royal Co Down

PRESS RELEASED ISSUED BY ENGLISH GOLF UNION
Lancashire’s Tommy Fleetwood, winner of all his matches in last year‘s tournament, has been selected to captain England in the Boys' Home Internationals at Royal County Down, Northern Ireland from August 5 to 7.
A year ago, at Machynys Peninsula in Wales, Fleetwood completed a clean sweep of his six matches as England regained the title they lost to Scotland in 2006. Fleetwood, 17, from the Formby Hall club, has enjoyed a highly-successful career over the past four years.
After finishing runner-up in the English Under-16 championship for the McGregor Trophy in 2005, he was capped at Under-16 level against Scotland while in the following two years he again faced the Scots and was also capped at that level against Spain.
He made his debut at boys' level in last year’s European boys' team championship in Denmark and also represented GB&I against Europe in the Jacques Leglise Trophy.
Last year, Fleetwood also won the Southport & Ainsdale Bowl, finished runner-up in the Lancashire championship and third in the North of England Under-16 championship. He was also a member of the four-man England team that won the Honda International Junior Championship in Japan.
He went one better in the Lancashire championship this year, winning the title at Formby, while he finished runner-up in the British Amateur championship at Turnberry and was a member of the England team that finished third in the recent European boys' team championship in Slovenia.
Over the past decade, England have won the Boys' Home Internationals title nine times. In last year's championship at Machynys Peninsula, England won 34 of their 45 matches in the round robin series to win the R&A Trophy ahead of Ireland.
