BOOKLESS LEADS BY FOUR SHOTS AT
HALFWAY AT BLAIRGOWRIE
Overnight leader Mark Bookless (Sandyhills) has stretched his lead to four shots at the halfway stage of the firstpointusa.com Scottish boys' open stroke-play golf championship over the Lansdowne course at Blairgowrie Golf Club.
Bookless couldn't match his opening 67 but a two-under-par 72 for a seven-under-par tally of 137 leaves Scottish boys' match-play champion Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) with a six-shot gap to close over the final 36 holes.
Bookless turned his Tuesday form on its head. This time he mastered the outward half with birdies at the first, second and eighth to turn in 33, an improvement of four shots. But a double bogey 6 at the 10th kind of knocked the wind out of him and though he birdied the 13th and 16th he would drop another shot, at the 18th, for 37 home, which was seven shots more than he required in the first round.
Colin Thomson (East Renfrewshire) moved into second place on 141 with a 68, one of half a dozen boys to break 70 on the day. Highlight of his card was an eagle at the eighth and he also had birdies at the first, ninth, 13th, 15th and 16tth in halves of 33 and 35.
Kyle McClung (Wigtownshire County) is in third place on 142 after a 69.
Stewart's task on the final day is not a mission impossible by any means but his task could have been a shade easier because he bogeyed the 17th and 18th in a 73 for 143.
