WOOSNAM TRAILS CAMERON IN
POLISH SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP

By PAUL SYMES
Ian Woosnam is currently four shots off the pace set by England’s Bob Cameron on day one of the Parkridge Polish Seniors.
Woosnam – playing his second event on the European Seniors Tour – came into the tournament in good form after a top 20 finish at last week’s US Senior PGA Championship, but was disappointed not to have taken advantage of the benign conditions at Krakow Valley Golf and Country Club.
He said: “The course wasn’t particularly difficult – although the rough’s quite tough – but I didn’t play especially well. If you get going, you can score well out there.
“It is quite long out there though – I’m quite tired, and my legs are certainly hurting me! And it was quite difficult to get used to the pace of the greens after coming from America. But we’re getting there slowly.
“It’s fantastic that we’re here, because bringing golf to Poland and other parts of eastern Europe can only be a good thing for the game.”
Cameron – who finished in the top 30 at last week’s US Senior PGA Championship – came home in 31 to finish on five under par, whilst Ireland’s Eamonn Darcy is in second place after a round of 68.
