McKnight hangs on in wind to be
third at halfway in "Welsh"
High winds made the second round of the Welsh men's open amateur stroke-play championship a test of determination as much as skill.
Robert McKnight from the Caprington club in Ayrshire was blown away to a 77 - seven shots more than his opening round over the Conway course in North Wales but even that was good enough to see him in third place on 147 at the halfway stage.
England's Sam Hutsby retained his lead with a gutsy 75 for 142, a shot ahead of Welsh Walker Cup player Nigel Edwards who dropped four shots over the treacherous closing three holes. They are the only two players under par with 36 holes to go on Sunday.
Jordan Findlay from Fraserburgh, home from another year at East Tennessee State University, had a 73, one of the day's better rounds, to move up to joint 121th place on 150.
