HUTCHEON THE FAVOURITE AS
SCOTTISH SENIORS' STROKE
PLAY HEADS NORTH
TO ELGIN GOLF CLUB

Monifieth ace Ian Hutcheon will be hoping to retain his title when the Scottish Seniors Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship gets underway (May 20 to 22) later this month, hosted at Elgin Golf Club.
Hutcheon, picture right by Cal Carson Golf Agency (all rights reserved), winner of the inaugural Seniors Order of Merit last year, is among a strong line-up contesting this year’s 54-hole tournament, the first counting event in the SGU Seniors Order of Merit for 2008.
The former Walker Cup player and winner of last year’s North of Scotland Seniors and the East of Scotland equivalent has won the national seniors title three times – at Glasgow Gailes in 2003, Alyth in 2004 and last year at Drumpellier, winning the tournament with a comfortable 4 shot cushion.
The plus two handicapper will line up with former champion Stephen Ellis, whose victory at Ranfurly Castle in 2006 marked the biggest win of his career. Title winner Gordon MacDonald (2005) and David Lane (2001/2002) will also be vying for the silverware.
The evergreen and most capped Scottish golfer Charlie Green, the only player to have held the stroke-play title over more than two consecutive years (from 1995-98) is a notable absentee from the line-up, which has been boosted by overseas entries from the US, United Arab Emirates, Sweden as well as competitors from Ireland and England.
SGU Events Manager Euan Mordaunt, organiser of the event at Scotland’s northern inland gem, said, “The Scottish Seniors Championship always attracts a good field, including many travelling from overseas to play in this prestigious event. There is a strong contingent of high calibre senior players in Scotland, which always provides stiff competition, with many players keen to add this title to their enviable CVs."
The event is played over three days - May 20-21-22 - and the 137 competitors in the field will play one round on each of the first two days over the 6,449 yard par 69 course, with only the top 40 players plus ties contesting the last 18 holes in Thursday’s final.
