Despite a triple bogey 7 on the last hole of the Welsh men's open amateur stroke-play championship at Conwy on Sunday, Long Ashton’s Chris Wood stormed through the field with a magnificent day’s golf, shooting 69 and 71 to win by six strokes from long time leader Sam Hutsby.
Wood totalled one-over-par 289 with rounds of 74, 75, 69 and 71.
Hutsby scored: 69, 75, 76 and 77.
The 2007 winner of the PING EGU Order of Merit praised the Conwy links saying “ it is one of the finest courses I have played and is in wonderful condition”.

Zack Saltman (Craigielaw) came through with a final round of 72 to take the honour of leading Scot in joint seventh place on 301.
Young Saltman, picture above from the Sunday action by Tom Ward (all rights reserved), scored 76 76 78 and 72.
It was a good tournament for the Fraserburgh pair in the field. Kris Nicol, not yet rated on the international scene, may be about to change that. He finished one shot behind Zack Saltman on 302 with scores of 76, 77, 76 and 74.
Jordan Findlay, just back in Britain, having flown home at the end of his 2007-2008 college year with East Tennessee State University, had his best four tournament finish, in adverse conditions, for a long time. He scored 77, 73, 75 and 79 for 304.
