Arizona State has first claim on NE student's golf
AND MAY MISS SCOTTISH STROKE TOO
Scotland international James Byrne has had to scratch from the English men's open amateur stroke-play championship for the Brabazon Trophy (May 16 to 18) as he is a member of the Arizona University team competing in the NCAA Division 1 West Regional championship at Golf Mountain Golf Club, Bremerton, Washington State from May 15 to 17. The 19-year-old Scottish boys' open stroke-play champion from Banchory may also not be home in time to play in the Scottish open stroke-play championship at The Duke's Course, St Andrews from May 30 to June 1.
If Arizona University finish in the top 10 of the NCAA Division 1 championship they will advance to the US college season-ending climax - the NCAA Final, at West Lafayette, Indiana from May 28 to 31.
Come what may, Master Byrne is determined not to miss the St Andrews Links Trophy, which tees off on Friday, June 6.
