Scott Henry makes all
the running to win
Edward Trophy

BY NICK RODGER
Scott Henry completed a wire-to-wire win in the Edward Trophy at Glasgow Gailes in Ayrshire on Sunday when the prestigious event was played over 72 holes for the first time instead of its traditional two-round format.
The former Scottish stroke-play champion from Cardross posted final day rounds of 67 and 73 for a 10-under-par aggregate of 278 and finished two strokes clear of Caprington's Steven McEwan.
Henry, pictured right, led the field by five shots at the halfway stage and increased his advantage to seven with his five-under third round. Despite slipping to his only over-par score of the weekend during the closing 18 holes, the former Scottish boys' champion had done enough to seal victory in this, for the first time one of the SGU's Order of Merit events.
McEwan, the 2005 Scottish boys' stroke-play champion, finished with a 69 and a 67 to claim the runners-up spot on 280 with Gavin Dear of Murrayshall grabbing third with a 283.
Michael Stewart, the winner of the Scottish boys' match-play title a fortnight ago, came barging up into fifth place with a rousing 65 for 286 while defending champion Matthew Clark, always toiling after an opening 80, finished well off the pace with a 294.
