SCOTS' WIN HELPS EUROPE LEAD 6-4
IN BONALLACK TROPHY IN SPAIN
Scotland's Callum Macaulay from Tulliallan and Comrie's Wallace Booth had mixed luck on the opening day of the Michael Bonallack Trophy men's amateur international biennial match at Valderrama on Spain's Costa del Sol today.
They led off the five four-ball ties for Europe against Asia-Pacific but lost by 2 and 1 to the New Zealand pairing of James Gill and Danny Lee.
Europe managed to share the morning honours 2 1/2-2 1/2 and went ahead 6-4 at the end of the day by winning the foursomes 3 1/2- 1 1/2 after a two-hole win by Macaulay and Booth in the top tie set the ball rolling for the home team.
The Scots beat the Japanese pairing of Yuki Ito and Nayyuki Tamura by 3 and 1.
The second-day Saturday programme is a repeat of the first before the everyone plays in the decisive singles line-up on Sunday.
