Press Release

OSMAN GOES CLOSE IN THE CAPE –
WHILE OSSIE REVS UP FOR LA MANGA

Former England international footballer and Escape to Victory star Russell Osman was narrowly beaten into second place in the Cape Town Footballers’ Golf Classic after a terrific performance from amateur player Mike Plimmer.
Plimmer, a regular amateur player on the popular footballers’ classics tour, was representing the ‘Plumber, the Plasterer and the Baker’ team and beat Ipswich Town legend with a terrific score of 146 over four rounds.
The competition, organised by Barwell events, was played out under blue skies on some of South Africa’s finest courses – Erinvale, Pearl Valley, De Zalze and Steenberg.
Plimmer also beat off the challenge of other footballing legends including Frank McLintock and Bruce Grobbelaar.
He said: “To play so well on such challenging courses was a dream and the company, golf and organisation from Barwell was excellent. I am already looking forward to La Manga Club in May for the annual golf classic.”
The attention now turns to Barwell Events’ La Manga Club Footballers’ Golf Classic, sponsored by Addison Lee, where the annual tournament will be celebrating its anniversary by hosting up to 40 teams at the luxury resort from 31 May – 5 June.
Among the footballing legends taking part will be former Spurs and Argentina star Ossie Ardiles who will be making his debut in the event.
Former winners will also be in attendance and, in reverence to The Masters, will take part in the first “Winner’s Dinner” where former Southampton forward Matt Le Tissier – last year’s winner - will serve up sausage and mash.
Barwell Events has a limited number of amateur team places still available for this outstanding event. For more information or to book, please contact Terry Mancini on 0208 786 3010 or email terry@barwell.co.uk
