MATT BROWNE, SUE FARMER LEAD

EURO WRITERS AFTER ROUND 2

Irish golf and rugby writer Matt Browne from County Wicklow made light of the cold and wet conditions to top score with 36 Stableford points over Montrose Links in the second round of the European Golf & Travel Media Association's Carnoustie Country Championship, sponsored by Visit Scotland, today.

Browne, who has 17 of a handicap, made his day with an outward half of 21pt.

Having scored 28pt at Monifieth in the first round on Monday, Matt leads the men's competition with 64pt – two ahead of Alan Hedley from the Newcastle area. Hedley, who plays off 10, scored 32pt in the rain at Montrose to follow up 30pt at Monifieth.

In third place is Norwegian Lois Roren, a 12-handicapper.

In the women's championship, Lia Grooters from the Netherlands, had 30pt at Montrose for a running total of 55pt.

She is five points behind the Algarve-based women's leader Sue Farmer.

Wednesday's third round is over the Letham Grange Old Course, after which competitors can discard the worst of their three scores so far before completing the tournament with a must-count round over the Carnoustie championship links.
