JAMES BYRNE SHOOTS 69 DESPITE
A PAIR OF DOUBLE BOGEYS

James Byrne was in good form in the first round of the Thunderbird Invitational over the Karsten course at Tempe, Arizona.
Byrne shot a two-under-par 69 despite two double bogeys.
The Banchory player, a first-year student at Arizona State University, birdied the first, sixth, seventh and eighth before he double-bogeyed the par-4 ninth to be out in two-under-par 32.
Then he birdied the long 10th before stumbling to a double bogey 5 at the short 13th. A birdie followed at the short 13th but he gave that back with a bogey at the 15th before notching his seventh birdie of the round, at the 17th over the 7,057yd course.
One of Byrne's Arizona State team-mates, Braxton Marquez, was the early leader with a five-under-par 67. He did not have any more birdies than James did but he did not have a couple of double bogeys either!
