Last Saturday saw the highly popular meetings attract an entry of 130 at Tulliallan in the first division and 98 in the second division at Braehead.
Stars of the day were home players - Gary McNaughton leading the second division with a net 65, and Tulliallan senior Bob Stewart, who gave the younger players a scoring lesson when he scorched round in a scratch 67 (34 -33) to lead by three shots from Gordon Lyons.

PROVAN SALVER

The Clackmannan county team’s hopes of taking the 2008 Provan salver evaporated in the warm spring sunshine at Schawpark. Against a strong Perth and Kinross side, the county lost
4-3 with one halved match.
Clackmannan needed a strong performance that would better the Fife performance at Dunfermline, but in the end the task was out of reach when Fife took their match 5-2 with one halved, and became the Provan Salver winners for 2008.
Perhaps there was an omen on the first tee when seven out of the eight Clackmannan tee shots missed the fairway, only tail ender Ian Ross finding the centre with much acclaim from the spectators.
Top performances for the Wee County came from Mike Rust with the best result of the day. Mike stood two up after eight holes and with steady golf, never let talented youngster Danny Harrison back into the game.
Darren Hulston, with a solid par at the last, took his match, and Alloa player Ian Ross showed how to deal with pressure when he hit a four iron at the last to 5 ft to win. John Maxwell was up most of the way, but allowed his opponent to escape with a halved match.
MATCH RESULTS
(County names first)
Ross Benvie (Braehead) lost to Malcolm Davidson (Craigie Hill) 2 and 1.
Steven Horne (Tulliallan) lost to Nicky Barr (Craigie Hill) 2 and 1.
Jamie Aitken (Alloa) lost to Mark Rose (Pitlochry) 3 and 2.
Andre Scotland (Alloa) lost to Eric Lindsay (Blairgowrie) 3 and 2.
John Maxwell (Tulliallan) halved with Danny Young (Craigie Hill).
Darren Hulston (Dollar) beat Steve Carruthers (Blairgowrie) 1 hole
Mike Rust (Braehead) beat Danny Harrison (Crieff) 5 and 4.
Ian Ross (Alloa) beat Tom McLevy (Blairgowrie) 2 holes.

Clackmannan county selectors will now be pondering their selections for the first round of the Scottish area team championship in three weeks.

MICHAEL BONALLACK TROPHY
As reported last week, the European team who played Asia-Pacific at Valderrama contained two Scots - Wallace Booth (Comrie) and Tulliallan’s Callum Macaulay.
It was another milestone of achievement when Callum played all his matches at the No. 1 position for the European team.
In the four-balls and foursomes he was paired with Wallace in the Ryder Cup format of the event.
On Day 1, Callum and Wallace were hit by two birdies at 16 and 17 to lose the four-ball match to the New Zealand pairing of James Gill and Danny Lee.
However, in the afternoon foursome they had a comfortable win against the Japanese pair of Yuki Ito and Naoyuki Tamura.
On Day 2 Callum and Wallace were rested in the morning, but in the afternoon foursomes they took revenge on the New Zealanders whom they beat 3 and 1.
The Day three singles saw Callum suffer another steal from the Japanese player in the top singles match. Two birdies again at holes 16 and 17 turned the match to Yuki Ito who halved the last for a one hole victory.
The overall result of the match was an emphatic win for the Europeans over the Asia Pacific golf team to take the Bonallack Trophy.
Callum now moves to the prestigious Lytham Trophy this weekend where all the top golfers compete in the first major event of the 2008 Amateur season. Selectors will be out in force, looking for the 2008 talent.

COUNTY BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP
It’s the turn of the Clackmanna county junior golfers to make their mark in competitive golf when the 2008 championships visit Tillicoultry on May 4.
In the senior boys' section, 24 boys will be competing with Alloa’s Grant Dowie trying to defend his title, while in the junior boys' section for the Under 14s, 21 hopefuls will be playing and in this section Lawrence Allan will be defending his title, with his strongest opposition coming from Dollar’s Gary Chalmers.
The talking point of the draw is the continuing strength of boys' golf at Alva. No fewer than 20 out of the total entry of 45 will represent Alva Golf Club.
As well as competing for the titles and prizes of the day, the boys will be trying to qualify for their match-play championships which take place during the following week.
Scott Clark, Lawrence Allan and William Nelson will all be trying to defend titles against stiff opposition.
Play starts at 08.30 for the senior boys and 11.15 for the juniors.
County president Sam Kinnaird is looking forward to the event.
“We have a good entry this year and there should be some outstanding golf that is worth watching. Hopefully the weather will be kind “
