MICHAEL SIM BLOWS IT WITH A
FINAL ROUND OF 74, MISSES OUT
ON FINAL Q SCHOOL BY ONE SHOT

Aberdeen-born Michael Sim lost his touch when he needed it most - and failed by one shot to qualify from the Stage 2 eliminator at Royal Dunes Golf Club, Maricopa in Arizona for the US PGA Tour Final Qualifying School showdown at Orange County National Country Club in Florida, beginning on November 28.
Sim, pictured above, was sitting pretty after rounds of 67, 71 and 67. But he blew it with a closing round of 74 for a nine-under-par total of 279.
The leadin 20 players and ties with totals of 10-under-par 278 and better qualified.
Sim, who had had only two bogeys over the first 54 holes, had four of them blotting his final scorecard - at the fifth, eighth, 12th and 15th. Birdies at the long third and long 16th could not repair the damage.
Now Sim has no option but to go for broke over the six tournaments on the 2008 US Tour, in which he has been granted a medical exemption to play following the lower spine stress fracture which led to him missing a couple of months of the early action on the 2007 Tour.
Sim has to win on average $60,000 a tournament in the six events to boost his completed 2007 Tour earnings above the total achieved by Mathias Gronberg who retained his playing rights with a 125th place finish in the money table.
Kieran Saunton from Purley, Surrey, despite a last-hole double bogey 6, did make it through from the Arizona Stage 2 eliminator to the Final Q School.
Saunton hit the limit mark of 10-under-par 278 with scores of 66, 73, 68 and 71. He birdied the second, sixth, 12th and 16th but had a bogey at the 11th and a double bogey at the 18th.
The leading qualifiers from the Arizona venue were Kevin Streelman from Illinois and 2007 US Walker Cup player Chris Kirk from Georgia, both on 17-under-par 271.
Streelman scored 69, 69, 67 and 68; Kirk scored 66, 68, 69 and 68.
Dubai-based Scot Ross Bain missed out by three shots at The Woodlands Golf Club, Kingswood in Texas. Ross, who campaigns on the Asian Tour, had rounds of 71, 79, 67 and 72 for one-over-par 289.
Scoring was not so low at this venue and the limit mark for qualifying from this venue was two-under-par 286.
