TEAMS ANNOUNCED FOR BUNKERED
MATCH-PLAY CHALLENGE

Excitement is brewing in Scottish golf as top-level match-play team golf returns to Scotland in the shape of the Bunkered Matchplay Challenge.
The Ryder Cup-style event between the PGA Scottish Region and Scottish Golf Union is set for its second staging following a very successful inaugural event at Cardrona, Peebles in 2004.
PGA Team captain Bernard Gallacher will go head-to-head with SGU Team captain George Crawford at The Carrick at Cameron House on October 11, 12 and 13.
Qualifying for the contest is now over and the teams have been announced. The top-10 on the associations’ respective Order of Merits made the team, plus two wild card picks.
Gallacher opted to go with the next best two on the Tartan Tour money list, Chris Kelly and Colin Gillies, who both played in 2004, while Crawford chose rising young star Ross Kellet and former Scottish boys champion Scott Henry, the latter having made a name for himself in the event last time round.
Kellet will be making his debut.
Leading their respective teams will be Greig Hutcheon, the Tartan Tour Order of Merit winner for the second year in a row, and Callum Macaulay, the Tulliallan star who won two end-of-season events to pip Wallace Booth to top spot in the SGU Order of Merit.
The cream of Scotland’s home-based professionals and their amateur counterparts will battle it out on Scotland’s newest championship golf course, The Carrick at Cameron House.
Martin Dempster, Editor of Bunkered, said the prospect of watching some of the best golfing talent in the country on a course of that stature should delight home fans.
“The Carrick is a sensational golf course and the perfect setting for the long-awaited return of the Bunkered Match-play Challenge,” said Dempster.
“We’re absolutely delighted with the build up as players on both sides have been talking enthusiatically about the event months in advance. It has all the ingredients to be a classic once again.”
Bernard Gallacher said he was eager to return to his duties as PGA Team captain, the legendary Scot having led his side to an inaugural victory at Cardrona in 2004.
“The Bunkered Match-play Challenge is a great event and a great idea for Scottish golf,” said the three time Ryder Cup captain.“There isn’t enough match-play around in the professional game these days so my players are really looking forward to it.”
SGU Team captain George Crawford will be hoping to make sure it’s not two-in-a-row for the PGA – and he says his players are determined to prove their worth.
“There is no such thing as a friendly,” said Crawford, one of the most successful Scottish national team captains in recent years. “When we turn up as a Scottish team we are there to win, no doubt about it.”
The three-day event will start a week on Thursday (October 11) with the Opening Ceremony, hosted by Dougie Donnelly, followed by a Pro-Am-Am.
Spectators are encouraged to come along at The Carrick on October 11-13 as entry is free.
