PRICE IS RIGHT FOR A SUNSHINE 66
AT MURCAR LINKS IN
CELTIC TOUR'S GRAMPIAN OPEN
Former Welsh and Portuguese amateur champion David Price shot a five-under-par 66 over Murcar Links today (Monday) in glorious sunshine to lead by two strokes at the halfway stage of the Celtic Pro Tour’s inaugural Grampian Open.
Price, pictured right, who won the £1,000 first prize in last week’s South-east Wales Open and is No. 1 on the Celtic Pro Tour Order of Merit, leads by two shots from Graeme Lornie, who is now playing out of King's Links Golf Centre.
In third place on one-under-par 70 is Duncan Stewart (Grantown on Spey), this year’s East of Scotland Open winner who recently turned pro and has won his way through to Stage 2 of the European Tour Qualifying School in Spain.
Price had a bogey-free scorecard with birdies at the second, fourth, 13th, 14th and 18th in halves of 34 and 32.
Lornie, after birdies at the fourth, seventh, eighth and 12th, needed one more down the home straight to match leader Price’s 66. Instead he bogeyed the 16th for a still praiseworthy 68 (33-35).
Michael Buchan (Cruden Bay), winner of the North of Scotland open amateur stroke-play championship at Royal Dornoch recently, heads the chase for the leading amateur award. He had a par 71 and leads by six strokes from Welshman Pete James.
Tuesday’s final round tee times range from noon to 1.12pm with the leaders going off last.
