SCHOOL STAGE 1 EVENT IN FLORIDA
Scots Russell Knox from Inverness and Edinburgh exile David Kirkpatrick failed to survive the US PGA Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 event over 72 holes at Grasslands Golf & Country Club, Lakeland, Florida.
Only the leading 26 went through to Stage 2 after 72 holes and Knox was joint 28th on six-under-par 282 while Kirkpatrick was joint 39th on 284. Knox scored 72, 70, 72 and 68; Kirkpatrick 72, 71,67 and 74.
Three players led the qualifiers on 16-under-par 272 - Americans Chad Wilfong (North Carolina), Derek Lamley (Florida) and Travis Perkins (Florida). Wilfong had rounds of 71, 71, 67 and 63; Lamley 66, 73, 68 and 65; Perkins 71, 65, 69 and 67.
