MICHAEL SIM'S FATHER EXPLAINS WHAT
HIS SON HAS TO DO TO KEEP HIS
US TOUR PLAYING RIGHTS NEXT YEAR

George Sim, Australia-based father of Michael Sim, the only Scot playing on the US PGA Tour, has explained his 23-year-old Aberdeen-born son's position about retaining his player's cards for next season.
"Michael has a medical exemption for next year which equates to six tournaments to make up the difference between what he earns this year and what the person in 125th place on the money list earns. If he achieves this he will have full playing rights on the US PGA Tour next year," said George.
"However he will also go to Tour School either at the second or final stage. If he is in the top 150 in the money list after this week’s tournament he goes to final stage. If he is outside the top 150 he goes to second stage.
"Michael also can play the Nationwide Tour next year should he fail to get his card either by tour school or via the six tournaments under his medical exemption. We are hoping for a good finish this week so that he goes to final stage of Tour School."
Michael Sim qualified to play on the 2007 US PGA Tour by finishing 19th in the 2006 Nationwide Tour money table. Tragically, he was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the lower spine during last winter and rest was the only real cure. He missed the early months of the US PGA Tour season.
Having played only 16 events this year, Michael is currently 162nd on the money list with earnings of $389,228. At the weekend, he earned his biggest cheque of $121,500 for a joint ninth finish.
