FRESHMAN KEVIN FROM ABERDEENSHIRE
HAS ACE ON AMERICAN
TOURNAMENT DEBUT
Aberdeenshire youngster Kevin Duncan, a freshman student at Clayton State University, Atlanta, could write a book about his debut tournament on the American college golf circuit.
Not so much about how he finished joint 65th in a final of 93 for the Cougar Invitational over the par-72, 6,861yd Bull Creek course at Midland, Georgia but how he achieved his contrasting rounds of 84, 73 and 73.
His final round included a hole in one at a 200yd hole in halves of 32 and 41 (guess which half he had the ace) over which he had only six par figures. Kevin, pictured above, had a double bogey 6 at the 12th and a double bogey 7 at the 13th. He also had five birdies apart from the eagle 1.
It was another Clayton State student, Will Willcox, who won by three strokes with scores of 71, 65 and 71 for a nine-under-par total of 207.
Glasgow-born Stephen Keane (Belmont Abbey College) started the final round just inside the top 10 but plummeted to joint 19th after a quadruple bogey 8 at the 15th in a closing round of 77 for 222. His earlier rounds had been 72 and 73.
Chris Carville (Clayton State) from Belfast finished joint 38th on 225, made up of 75, 71 and 79.
Daniel Sommerville (Clayton State) from St Andrews scored 76, 79 and 81 for a share of 82nd place on 236.
