English Golf Union Press Release

ENGLAND NAME BOYD AND PARRY TO
COMPLETE QUARTET FOR HOUSTON

English ladies champion Naomi Edwards and fellow international Liz Bennett will team up with men internationals Gary Boyd (Cherwell Edge) and John Parry (Harrogate) to represent England in the Spirit International Championship in Texas later this month.
The Spirit is a biennial event being played at Whispering Pines, north of Houston, on October 24th - 27th. It will feature 24 countries from six continents, each represented by two men and two women.
In the 2005 competition England’s Sophie Walker and Felicity Johnson won the gold medal in the women’s event and, with Oliver Fisher and Jamie Moul, also took the international team gold.
Naomi Edwards (Ganton) and Liz Bennett (Brokenhurst Manor) were in England’s winning Home Internationals team and are also GB & I internationals. Naomi played in the 2006 Curtis Cup.
Boyd was a member of England’s winning team in last month's Home Internationals in Ireland while Parry was a member of the GB&I Walker Cup team, also in Ireland. Boyd won the 2006 Asian Pacific title and finished tied third in the recent European Amateur in Berlin, while Parry is the Spanish Amateur and Welsh Open Stroke Play champion.

+The SLGA selected Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon) and Emily Ogilvy (Auchterarder) some time ago for the trip to Houston. The SGU has yet to name the two male representatives.
