E-mail from David Hamilton:
It was interesting to read Bryan Innes’ letter regarding the R&A’s decision to scrap the British Mid Amateur Championship and I agree with much he says.
But what he hasn’t got right is the reference to the home unions. He says the R&A and other home unions have erred by making it for over-25s.
The English Golf Union’s mid-amateur is for over-35s and has been since its inception in 1988.
I think instead of scrapping the event the R&A should have extended it to the over-35s and that would ensure they get the true amateurs.
+Scroll down a week or two to get Bryan Innes' comments about the R&A decision to discontinue the British mid-amateur championship.
