ANOTHER READER WHO DOES NOT AGREE WITH
R&A DECISION TO DISCONTINUE BRITISH MID-AM

From A B Lyons:

I take this opportunity to voice my total support in the campaign which should in my view be taken on board by every competing amateur golfer, that the R&A have made a wrong decision in deciding to scrap the British Mid-Amateur, when a perfectly simple solution was to amend the rules regarding qualification by increasing the age to 35 years.
As a competing senior member at club level, I noted the comments made in reply to Mr Innes`s, very fair and elequent appraisal of the R&A decision.
Mr Leslie`s opinions were littered with inaccuracies, as noted in Mr Innes's reply.
I would also say that there are still many divisions already in Amateur golf which have prospered over many years. and the full-time "shamateur" is a relatively new innovation, which would appear is being very well supported rightly or wrongly through the good offices of the SGU.
My final comment is on the same website (Scottishgolfview), I was astounded to read of 1.3 million pounds was being made available to countries including Burundi, Pakistan, Samoa to help their development of golf, plus in addition to financial aid the supply of referees and other officials by the R&A.
