ST ANDREWS PLAYER MAKES
EARLY RUNNING IN
NORTH-EAST DISTRICT OPEN

Greg Paterson from the St Andrews New Club, recent surprise winner of the Sutherland Chalice 72-hole Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit tournament at Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club, was back in the limelight at Newmachar Golf Club, near Aberdeen today.
Greg, pictured right, led the first round of the scheduled 72-hole North-east District Open with a four-under-par 68 over the Swailend course in miserably wet conditions.
The Fifer had a one-stroke lead from local player Kyle Shearer (Kemnay).
The best placed of the "big guns" were East of Scotland Open winner Duncan Stewart (Grantown on Spey) and former Scottish match-play champion Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie), both on 70.
The leading 40 and ties after 36 holes qualified for the final two rounds, to be played over Newmachar's Hawkshill course on Sunday (weather permitting).
