OPEN REGIONAL QUALIFYING

NEIL MURRAY AND THAT MAN DUNCAN
STEWART AGAIN RELEGATE CALLUM
MACAULAY TO THIRD AT MUSSELBURGH

Scottishgolfview.com's roving reporter HUGH HUNTER was at Musselburgh Golf Club today for the Scottish venue on today's wide-ranging programme of 18-hole regional qualifying competitions for the Open championship.

Hugh saw Callum Macaulay bounce back very well indeed from having to settle for second place behind Duncan Stewart in the weekend East of Scotland Open at Lundin Links.
Macaulay posted an early score of four-under-par 67 which stayed unchallenged at the top of the scoreboard for many hours before, late in the day, he was relegated to an honourable third in the huge field of professionals and amateurs.

Neil Murray (Cruden Bay), pictured above, and that man Duncan Stewart again both shot five-under-par 66s.

Callum birdied the second and fourth and reached the turn in two-under-par 34.
His only slip for a bogey came at the short 11th where he was bunkered.
Macaulay responded in the style of a very good player by holing birdie putts of six and 12 feet at the 13th and 14th. The Tulliallan member capped his rough with a birdie 4 at the long last, which he reduced to a drive, two-iron, a pitch and an eight-foot putt.
In the end the leading 20 players, their scores spanning 66 to 72, qualified for the 36-hole Final Qualifying. Former British boys champion Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh) was the only player who returned a 72 to make. He came through a card countback against eight other players on the one-over-par mark.
