Allied Surveyors Scottish men's amateur championship

FORMER CHAMPION GLENN
CAMPBELL FALLS TO PAUL
O'HARA IN ROUND 2

Scottish boys' stroke-play champion James Byrne (Banchory) is still the only seed to have been knocked out - on the opening day - as Day 2 of the Allied Surveyors Scottish men's amateur championship draws to a close at Prestwick today.
There are second-round ties still being played so there is still time for that statement to be changed.
Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan), the No 7 seed, did have a close shave in that he was taken to the 20th before beating Steven Wallace (Prestwick St Cuthbert) who used his local knowledge - and over this course, local knowledge is worth a hole or two of a start - to bridge the gap in ability, if there was indeed any such thing.
Match-play is a great leveller and Wallace started confidently to be two holes up after three.
Maculay, British amateur championship quarter-finalist, settled to cut back the deficit and turn for home with a two-hole lead. But Wallace was not going to be easily shaken off and both birdied the 18th to keep the match all square. Macaulay got through at the second extra hole.
Double Scottish champion Kevin McAlpine (Alyth) was one down after nine to David Addison (Kilmarnock Barassie) but had taken the lead by the 14th and finished his man off with birdies at the 15th and 16th for a 3 and 2 victory.
Scottish youths champion Scott Borrowman (Dollar) won at the 19th against Colin Peddie (Hayston). Borrowman had to hole a big putt across the last green to stay alive.
In the second round ties, top seed Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw) had another comfortable win, beating Steven Rennie (Airdrie) by 4 and 3.
Paul O'Hara (Colville Park), pictured above, twice a finalist in the last three years, beat the champion of two years ago at Southerness, Murrayshall greenkeeper Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie). O'Hara won by 4 and 3.
