THREE SHARE LEAD ON 66 IN
SCOTTISH YOUTHS
CHAMPIONSHIP AT ERSKINE
Late finisher Michael Daily used his local knowledge of the Erskine Golf Club course to join Zack Saltman (Craigielaw) and Lewis Kirton (Newmachar) in a share of the first-round lead on the five-under-par 66 mark.
Daily birdied the third, fourth, fifth and ninth in a flawless 32 to the turn. He got another birdie at the 109th to be five under but then dropped his one and only shot at the 13th before a birdie at the 14th put him on course for a 66.
Zack Saltman, pictured right, the reigning world hickory champion, had birdies at the second, seventh, eighth, ninth, 17th and 18th in halves of 33. His only bogey over the par 71 course came at the second.
Kirton, who will be 19 next Friday, has only recently returned from completing his first year at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. Lewis was a shot ahead of Saltman after covering the first nine holes in four-under-par 32.
Kirton birdied the first, third, fifth, sixth and eighth but dropped a shot at the seventh.
Kirton gained the sixth and seventh birdies of his round at the short 11th and 13th but he also dropped a shot at the 12th. He parred the last five holes for 34 in and a 66.
On 67 alongside French challenger Olivier Rozner, was Dumbarton’s 18-year-old Andrew Campbell who birdied the second, fifth, ninth, 13th and 18th, dropping a shot only at the seventh.
