THREE SCOTS IN US OPEN FIELD AT OAKMONT

There will be three Scots in the field for next week's United States Open championship at Oakmont Country Club - Colin Montgomery, Richie Ramsay and Martin Laird, the former Scottish youths champion, who has come through a final qualifier play-off at Riverside GC, Illinois with rounds of 72 and 71 for 143.
Laird is having a successful season on America's No 2 men's pro tour, the Nationwide Tour, on which he has beenn a winner and has won over $120,000.
Edinburgh-born Walker Cup player Rhys Davies, who won 10 events during four years (just ended) at East Tennessee State University, has earned a place in the field through a 36-hole sectional qualifying event.
Russell Knox, still an amateur, from Inverness survived a local qualifier but was eliminated in one of the many sectional qualifiers. Russell has just finished four years at Jacksonville University, Alabama.
