AMERICAN IS NEW NUMBER ONE IN R&A
WORLD AMATEUR RANKINGS
American college student Jamie Lovemark is the new No 1 in the R&A's World Amateur Golf Rankings following an impressive victory over one of the strongest fields in amateur golf at the NCAA Division 1 men's college championship at Williamsburg, Virginia.
Lovemark, a student at the University of Southern California, shot two 64s (12 under par) over the final 36 holes to win the title with a nine-under-par total fo 271. He is the first American to be No 1 since the R&A started its world ranking of amateurs.
England's Jamie Moule, who knocked US amateur champion Richie Ramsay (Royal Aberdeen) off the top perch some 16 weeks ago, has slipped down to second place.
There are two Scots in the top 20 - Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw) in ninth place and Richie Ramsay in 18th place.
Alyth's Kevin McAlpine won the Bidwells Scottish open stroke-play title at Royal Dornoch on Sunday, to claim a notable double, having won the Allied Surveyors Scottish amateur championship last year at Nairn. He is only the sixth player to achieve the feat of holding both Scottish national titles concurrently. The victory has catapulted McAlpine up 65 places to No 107.
Apart from Saltman and Ramsay, the only other Scots ranked in the top 100 are Paul O'Hara (Colville Park) in 78th place and John Gallagher (Swanston) in 84th place.
