MONIFIETH’S AILEEN BEATS BIG FIELD TO
WIN NORTHERN OPEN AT CARNOUSTIE


Monifieth’s Aileen Hunter beat a field of more than 140 to win the Northern Open women’s golf tournament over 18 holes of the Carnoustie championship links on Saturday.
Aileen claimed the Carnoustie Rosebowl with a round of 76 which was one over par but three under the CSS, enough to cut her handicap by 0.7. She won by three strokes from former international Claire Hargan (Mortonhall) and Wendy Nicholson (Broomieknowe. Claire pipped Wendy with the better last three holes in a card countback.
Angus county champion Lynne Fotheringham (Grange) won the Gourlay Rosebowl for the best net score on the day – a 74 off four of a handicap.
