LEFT-HANDER GREEN BEATS FRENCHMAN IN
PLAY-OFF TO WIN AUSTRIAN OPEN
Australian left-hander Richard Green, the long-time leader, in the end had to survive a play-off against a Frenchman, Jean-Francois Remesy, after they had tied on 16-under-par 268 for the regulation 72 holes of the Austrian Open at Vienna.
Remesy made up six shots on Green with a closing round of seven-under-par 64 to the Aussie's 70. Green collected 216,660 Euros to 144,440 Euros for Remesey who had to take a penalty drop at the first play-off hole where he hit his ball among rocks.
Stephen Gallacher from Bathgate finished a highly creditable sixth on 14-under-par 270 after a great final round of 64. He won 45,500 Euros.
Gary Orr came joint 14th on 274 with a 70 and earned 18,720 Euros.
The fourth Scot to beat the cut, Euan Little, closed with a 69 for 276 and joint 21st place. He earned 14,105 Euros.
