Anstruther’s George Murray finished in ninth place at the European Challenge Tour’s Vodafone Challenge in Dusseldorf today.
The 2004 Scottish amateur champion earned 2,762 Euros after carding a final round of three under par 69 to finish on nine under par 279 for the tournament, but he was some way behind flying Dutchman Joost Luiten, who produced the lowest final round by a winner in Challenge Tour history – an 11 under par 61 – to take the title with an 18-under-par total of 270 and with it the top prize of 20,800 Euros.
Sweden's Magnus Carlsson, who had a 62 in his second round, signed off with a 66 for 271 and earned 14,300 Euros.
Murray was the top Scot in the field, with Andrew McArthur finishing with a 69 for joint 29th place on 284 and a cheque for 1,027 Euros; David Patrick a 71 for joint 41st place on 287 and a pay-out of 741 Euros, and Elliot Saltman a 71 for one-over-par 289 and joint 50th place which earned him 520 Euros.
Gareth Wright, the West Linton-based Welshman, finished joint 15th for 1,885 Euros, closing with a 67 for 281.
