BORROWMAN WINS SECOND NATIONAL
TITLE WITH CAPTURE OF
SCOTTISH YOUTHS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

Scott Borrowman, winner of the Scottish Under-16 boys’ title in 2002, added another national title to his collection at Erskine Golf Club today when he won the Scottish youths open amateur stroke-play championship.
The 20-year-old Stirling University student and member of Dollar Golf Club, Clackmannanshire took over the lead with a five-under-par 66 in Saturday’s second round and he was two strokes clear of the field after 54 holes and still two shots ahead after 72.

But the scores don't tell the whole story. Borrowman had to hang on in there under severe pressure over the final round. He was caught by his pursuers but shook them off in the style of a champion with birdies at the 17th and 18th holes.
Borrowman’s four rounds were 68, 66, 69 and 72 for a nine-under-par total of 275 over the par-71 lay-out.
He won by two strokes from English challenger Ben Newsome (East Sussex National) with three players tied on 278 – Sam McLaren (King James VI), last year’s Scottish Under-16 champion, Andrew Campbell (Dumbarton), a quarter-finalist in the Scottish boys’ match-play championship in early April, and Robin Kind from the Netherlands.

McLaren bogeyed the 16th and 17th but birdied the 18th to finish joint third.
Now Scott’s ambition must be to match his mother’s international achievements – she played for Scotland and Great Britain at hockey.
