BANCHORY TEENAGER SENDS MESSAGE
FROM JAPAN TO SCOTTISHGOLFVIEW

Banchory teenager James Byrne, in Japan this week as a member of the Scotland Under-18 team bidding for the world boys' title, sent this message from the other side of the world to Scottishgolfview.com in response to news of his selection for the Scotland squad of six for the European men's amateur team championship at Western Gailes next month (scroll down to read the announcement of the team):
“My aim this year was to try to get into the Scotland team for the home internationals in September, so to be selected for the Europeans has surpassed all my expectations. Of course, I am over the moon. It is a great honour for me to receive a full Scotland cap and to be part of a team of such accomplished players who I look up to as role models.
"This season is the first year I have entered a full programme of men’s events. I’ve really enjoyed the experience and have learned a great deal from playing with many top players. All the Scottish players and SGU staff have made me feel welcome and have given me lots of support and encouragement.
"My focus this week is on the World junior team championships in Japan. However, I am really looking forward to joining the Scotland team at Western Gailes at the end of the month. We’ll be going all out to win on home soil.”
