Three Scots in top 10 at Lytham Trophy halfway stage

SALTMAN STILL SETTING
PACE: BANCHORY'S
BYRNE NEXT BEST SCOT

Bang-in-form Lloyd Saltman continues to make every post a potential winning one in the Lytham Trophy at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, Lancashire.
The Craigielaw man maintained his overnight lead with a 67 for a halfway total of 132 – 17 shots under the combined CSS of 74 and 75.
But Saltman is by no means home and dry yet. On his tail, albeit three shots adrift, is another of the best young players in Europe, teenager Rory McIlroy from Holywood, near Belfast.
McIlroy, the European individual amateur champion last year, had a 68 for 135.
To find the next best placed Scot after Saltman you have to go down to joint 12th place to find Banchory teenager James Byrne, pictured above, holding his own in admirable fashion against the best in the land – and the Continent.
James, bound for Arizona State University in the autumn, had a 70, one of the better second round,s for 143.
Richie Ramsay, the United States amateur champion from Royal Aberdeen, was not firing on anything like all cylinders for a second-round 74 and a 36-hole tally of 144.
Other Scots among the leading 40 players and ties who made the cut with tallies of 146 and better were Steven McEwan (Caprington), Scott Henry (Cardross), Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) and Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie).
