IN HIS LAST ROUND ON US COLLEGE
CIRCUIT AFTER FOUR YEARS
Tulliallan’s Callum Macaulay had a disappointing end to his four years on the American college golf circuit as a student at the University of Mississippi.
Callum finished joint 90th in a field of 141 for the NCAA Division 1 men’s East Regional qualifying tournament for the NCAA championship grand final at the end of the month.
Macaulay had rounds of 79 72 and 69 for a total of 230. He had a double bogey 7 at the ninth in his final round and a guadruple bogey 8 at the 14th.
Mississippi needed to finish in the top 10 to prolong the Scot's US college golf season b y qualifying for the NCAA championships. But they finished 17th of 27.
Russell Knox (Jacksonville University), pictured right, was the leading British player in joint 23rd place. A final round of 68 after scores of 74 and 78 boosted him 50 places in the final standings with a total of 220.
Knox, like Macaulay, playing his last round of college golf in the States had an eagle 2 at the fourth and an eagle 3 at the long 18th in halves of 33 and 35.
Duncan Stewart (Jacksonville University) had erratic rounds of 82, 71 and 81 for a share of 105th place on 234. Stewart had a triple bogey 6 at the short sixth in his final round, a double bogey 6 at the 10th and then, to cap it all, a triple bogey 8 at the long 18th.
Billy Horschel (Florida) and Brendan Todd (Georgia) tied at the top of the leaderboard on 210 over the par-72, 7,017yd course at the Golf Club of Georgia, Alpharetta.
