HARVEY FINISHES JOINT SECOND IN
PGA SENIOR CLUB PRO CHAMPIONSHIP

A calamitous finish by Garry Harvey cost him a slight winning chance and saw him finish joint second in the PGA Senior Club professional championship at Northamptonshire County Golf Club today.
A former British boys’ champion from Perth, Harvey, now playing out of Bearsden Golf Range, bogeyed the 10th and then had double bogeys at the 14th and 16th before birdieing the last for 39 home and a 74 for a 54-hole final total of six-over-par 216.
That tied him for second place with Richard Green (Bramhall) who shot a closing 69.
They each earned £3,050.
Winner of the £4,750 first prize by five shots was Vienna-based Englishman Donald Stirling who had a closing round of 73 for one-over-par 211.
Bill McColl (Thorpe Hall) was the next best Scot after Harvey in joint seventh place with a 70 for 218 and a cheque for £1,675.
Kemnay club pro Ronnie McDonald, like Harvey, took 39 shots for the inward nine, including a double bogey 5 at the short 15th, in carding a 75 for 224 and a share of 18th place. His financial reward was £480 but Ronnie just made the leading 20 who qualified for the PGA Seniors championship at Stoke by Nayland from September 6 to 9.
