VIKKI STRUGGLING IN LOUISIANA
PELICAN CLASSIC

Former Scottish girls champion and past Curtis Cup player Vikki Laing from Musselburgh has a first-round score of six-over-par 78 to be lying joint 123rd in a field of 144 for the Louisiana Pelican Classic women's professional golf tournament at The Wetlands golf course, Lafayette.
Vikki, pictured right, had halves of 39 (three over par both ways) to be 13 shots behind the leader, Janell Howland, from Boise, Idaho, who said that a new set of Ping Rapture irons had made all the difference to her game.
The fact that Janell's father was caddieing and her mother walking the side of the fairways helped to give Janelle a feel-good factor which was reflected in her halves of 35 and 32 for the 6,437yd, par-72 (36-36) course.
Joint second on 67 were former US Curtis Cup player and rookie professional Jane Park from California, and Canadian Kim Brozer from Alberta. Both covered the front nine in four-under-par 32.
Brenda McLarnon from Belfast, like Vikki a former US college circuit player, had a 74 (36-38) to be in joint 79th position.
