Aberdeen’s Scott Henderson, pictured right, produced a sparkling second round of seven-under-par 65 to move into contention at the European Challenge Tour’s Tessali-Metaponto Open di Puglia e Basilicata on Italy’s south-east coast today.
Henderson, who opened his week with a two-over-73 at Riva dei Tessali, made his comeback with seven birdies and 11 pars at the Metaponto Golf Club to move to five under for the tournament, joint 18th on 138 and just six shots behind leader Fredrik Widmark of Sweden with 36 holes to play.
Henderson will return to Riva dei Tessali for the weekend action, where he will be joined by fellow Scot George Murray, who just made the two under par cut mark of 141 with nothing to spare with rounds of 69 and 72.
There was disappointment for the six other Scots in the field, as Jack Doherty (one under 142 ), Peter Whiteford (one under 142 ), Jamie McLeary (two over 145), Eric Ramsay (two over 145), Andrew McArthur (three over 146) and Graham Gordon (six over 149) were all forced to catch early flights home.
