EUROPRO TOUR EVENT SWITCH
FROM THE CARRICK TO
MACDONALD CARDRONA
The PGA EuroPro Tour event scheduled for The Carrick at Cameron House, the new course on the banks of Loch Lomond, has been switched to the MacDonald Cardrona course near Peebles.
The dates for the 54-hole event remain the same - May 23 to 25.
Work on the facililities at the new Carrick course will not be completed in time to host a tournament near the end of May.
Ian Gray, general manager at the Macdonald Golf Hotel Golf & Country Club, said: "We are delighted to be hosting the PGA EuroPro Tour at the Macdonald Cardrona. It is a highly prestigious event and we are sure the players will enjoy playing on our fantastic course, which is fast gaining a reputation as one of the leading resort courses in Scotland.
"This is one of a number of significant golfing events set to take place at Cardrona in 2007 - so it's shaping up to be an exciting year."
CLUBHOUSE AND SPA NOT READY IN TIME
PGA EuroPro Tour Operations Manager Danny Nickless said: "Whilst it was obviously very disappointing that the Carrick at Cameron House would not be ready, it is great that the Macdonald Cardrona will be able to stage this event.
"Scotland has a fantastic golfing heritage and it was our aim to maintain a presence in the country this year.
"The Macdonald Cardrona is in a superb setting and it should be an excellent test for players on the PGA EuroPro Tour."
Alan Tait, the Head Golf Professional at the Carrick at Cameron House, said: "We felt it was in the best interests of the PGA EuroPro Tour to postpone this event until 2008.
"Although the golf course is ready for play, the clubhouse and spa would not be ready in time to stage this event.
"I would not wish for my fellow Golf Professionals to come to this world class facility when there will be a limited service available.
"The Carrick is a stunning golf course with a resort to match, but personally feel we would be doing the PGA EuroPro Tour, and everyone involved with The Carrick, an injustice, for the tournament to go ahead with a limited facility.
"We are however looking forward to staging a PGA EuroPro Tour event in 2008 and look forward to welcoming the tour then."
