US FUTURES TOUR LATEST

VIKKI PERKS UP BUT IT’S ONLY

A FEW DOLLARS MORE

Vikki Laing perked up again to produce a final round of par-matching 71 for a final total of four-over-par 217 in the Alliance Bank Futures Classic golf tournament at The Links at Erie Village, Syracuse in New York State on Sunday.

Vikki covered the front nine in a sparkling three-under-par 33 with birdies at the fourth, seventh and ninth.

The inward half – which cost the Scot three crippling double bogeys in a row in the second round, still would not yield a birdie for her and she bogeyed the 10th, 11th and 18th for 38 home.

The 25-year-old from Musselburgh had earlier rounds of 69 and 77. She finished 51st but her prizemoney of $255 would hardly have paid her hotel bill for the week.

Samantha Head from Bedford was the leading British player in 37th place on one-under 215. She had rounds of 72, 73 and 70 to earn $353.

Polly Willett from London picked up only $161 for a 67th place finish on 223 (73-72-78).

Winner of the first prize $9,800 was South Korean Ha-Na Chae with 66, 70 and 68 for nine-under-par 204. She had a double bogey 7 at the seventh in her final round but then covered the inward half in four-under-par 31.

American Katie Allison finished second, two shots behind, with 67,70 and 69 to earn £7,000.
