GRAHAM RANKIN LOWERS RECORD
AT OBAN TO SEVEN-UNDER-PAR 54
Drumpellier’s Graham Rankin lowered the Glencruitten Golf Club course record to seven-under-par 54 in winning the Oban club’s 36-hole shotgun pro-am today.
The previous record of 55 was set by Brian Dunbar in the same event last year.
Rankin’s 54 represented a 10-shot improvement on his first-round 64 and his total of four-under-par 118 won him the £868 top prize by five shots from Alan Lockhart (Ladybank) and David Park (Wishaw) who tied on 123.
Park led the Lorn Hotel trio of amateurs, Declan Curran (12), John Cureran (10) and Allan Mackie (scratch) to victory in the team event with a net single-round score of 16-under-par 45.
Although the Glencruitten course measures only 4,452yd, it can present problems. Just ask Brian Mason (Drumoig Driving Range. He led the field by five shots with a 57 and then took 16 more shots to get round a second time finishing ninth on 130.
