STEPHANIE MAKES SURE OF IRISH GIRLS' TITLE

Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush), beaten finalist two years ago and beaten in the quarter-finals 12 months ago, has won the Lancome Irish girls' (close) amateur championship at last!
She beat Victoria Bradshaw (Bangor) by 5 and 4 in the final at Malone Golf Club today.
In the semi-finals, Stephanie beat Louise Coffey (Warrenpoint) 5 and 4 while Victoria was a 2 and 1 winner of Louise Mernagh (Woodenbridge).
Miss Meadow is bound for Florida in the autumn to become a student at one of the golf academies which also offers a higher education to its students.
Results in the quarter-finals were:
Louise Coffey (Warrenpoint) beat Charlene Reid (Gracehill) 7 and 6.
Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush) beat Sarah Faller (Galway) 3 and 2.
Victoria Bradshaw (Bangor) beat Sarah Cunningham (Ennis) 3 and 2.
Louise Mernagh (Woodenbridge) beat Kate Gallagher (Claremorris) at 19th.
There were one or two form upsets in the early stages of the match-play. The biggest was the first-round defeat of leading qualifier Alice Davis by the last of the qualifiers, Louise Coffey from Warrenpoint - Coffey being a famous surname from Irish women's amateur golf of the last decade or so.
The defeat cost Miss Davis her place in the Irish girls' team for the home internationals.
