Reynolds retains Argyll and Bute titles
Lachlan Reynolds of Rothesay Golf Club retained the Argyll and Bute stroke-play and youth titles after a hard-fought play-off with Millport’s Craig Pirie.
Tied on one-under-par 139 after 36 holes, it took a birdie from Lachlan on the second extra hole, the 18th, at Machrihanish to secure victory after driving the green at this par-4 hole and two- putting for a stunning win.
Trailing by four after the morning round, Lachlan shot a best of the day 67 with a back nine of 31 to set the target. Craig matched Lachlan’s total with a two-under-par 68, setting the scene for the play-off.
Despite being on the beach at the first extra hole, Lachlan made a bogey which matched Craig’s bogey after Craig was in the driving seat.
In third place was morning leader Graham Bolton who faltered on the last five holes to miss out by one shot. Fourth place, one stroke further back, was filled by Alastair Shaw.
The team trophy was won by Rothesay by eight shots from Millport.
