High winds blow Alliance scores sky high at Spey Bay: Cassie wins with a 79
By MICHAEL MacDOUGALL
Ice-cold high winds resulted in the highest general level of scoring in a North-east Golfers Alliance for many a long year at Spey Bay Golf Club on the Moray Firth coastline today.
Charlie Cassie (Nigg Bay) won the top scratch prize in Alliance fixture for the first time with a nine-over-par round of 79, four ahead of four players on 83: Stewart Kidd (Longside), Ross McNeill (Westhill), Stewart Finnie (Caledonian) and John Nicolson (Newmachar).
Cassie won a £100 voucher. The joint second-place finishers gained a £65 voucher each.
Peter Cheyne (Northern) won the £60 top voucher in Handicap Class 1 with a net 77 of eight.
Nigel Parker (Murcar Links) won a similar prize for heading Class 2 with a net 76 off 14.
A large number of call-offs resulted in a total absence of professionals, another first for a NE Alliance.
