SENIOR SCOTS WOMEN BEAT CZECHS
Scotland
beat the Czech Republic 4-1 in their opening match-play tie of the
European senior women's amateur team championship Flight B competition
at Sierra Golf Club in Poland.
Alex Glennie and Mary Smith won the foursomes tie 2 and 1.
Fiona
De Vries (2 and 1) and Gillian Kyle (3 and 1) won in the singles and
there were halves for Lesley Lloyd and Lorna McKinlay.
Other results in Flight B:
Germany 4, Poland 1.
Austria 3, Iceland 2.
Italy 4, Denmark 1.
In the Championship flight, the quarter-final results were:
England 4, Netherlands 1
Belgium 3, Spain 2
France 2, Sweden 3
Ireland 3.5, Switzerland.

The
Irish Senior Women’s team overcame sixth seed Switzerland in the
quarter-finals of Flight A at the European Senior Ladies Team
Championships in Poland. The top foursomes match of Carol
Wickham and Sheena McElroy was close throughout and finished in a
halved match.
Swiss player Jackie Dangel-Orley dominated the second
match against Suzanne Corcoran and gained a point for the opposing side
with a 4 and 3 win.
Irish Seniors close champion Gertie
McMullen (The Island) proved her class and was next to secure a 7 and 5
win. Both Mary Sheehy (Tralee) and Laura Webb (East
Berkshire) followed suit and with 3 and 2, and 4 and 3 wins,
respectively.
Ireland
will play Sweden in the semi-final tomorrow, after the Swedes overcame second seeds France in dramatic fashion, with the final two matches won on the 20th hole.
